Recent research into pain has shown that pain is like the warning light on the dashboard of the car. It is warning us that there is a problem but it itself is not the problem (or rarely). Just as we don't stop the dash light glowing by working on it, we don't reduce pain by working on the pain. To reduce the pain we must find and fix the cause.
The Problem With Pain
A Results Focused Process
1.Diagnosis - A thorough assessment of nerves, joints, and muscles is attended to find all the factors that may be contributing to you pain/movement problem. This will include not just the immediate area but also body parts away from the presenting problem.
2. The Fix - A process of quickly treating all the areas that may be contributing to the problem to find the one that is the Primary (or main) Contributing Factor (PCF), is worked through with the client.
Once the PCF is established, it is treated and progress is measured. Progress must be clear to both client and therapist for treatment to continue. Once the problem has resolved, treatment can move to the next phase.
3.Tune-up. - To prevent another breakdown, we can check on how you are looking after your condition. This involves:
This involves:
1-Test your condition and check on your self management techniques.
2- Progress your skills.
3- Treat any re-accumulation of strain/tension that may have occurred since the previous visit. This may be recommended for every 4-12 weeks depending on the problem, clients age, occupation, health status and leisure needs. If you have had a problem that has been recurring, this may be for you.
